TAI CHI BENEFIT FOR PUERTO RICO

The benefit was a huge success.  We raised $4000.00  (exceeding my expectations so I’m thrilled) to send to United of Puerto Rico.   All in attendance lloved the classes with Ken Van Sickle and Joseph Zeisky.

We are very grateful to Susan Hoskins and Breana Newton of the Princeton Senior Resource Center for providing the space, to Connie Mercer and Steve Bleezarde of HomeFront for creating the flyers and advising me on administration matters, to Whole Earth Center for donating trail mix for participants, to Terhune Orchards for donating cider and to Big Bear for providing a discount for snacks.  Thank you Janney Murtha (my beloved sister) for bringing additional healthy snacks for participants.

Especially we thank Ken and Joseph for the wonderful classes, and for all the generosity of the participants and those donating but unable to attend the event.   Bruce Campbell and Alan Goodheart drove to pick up and return Joe and Ken to NYC, a labor of love.

I am grateful to Brett Smith for coming to speak about the conditions he witnessed firsthand when he and his lovely wife Tahirih traveled to Puerto Rico, their childhood homeland, to help with recovery after Irma and Maria.

Thank you Michael Littwin for filming some of the event.  The plan is to hopefully edit together a short video we can all watch, and perhaps post on YouTube.

Gracias to sponsors Ilene Watrous, Princeton Health Foods and to all the caring generous individuals who made this benefit successful.

Master Instructor Ken Van Sickle studied with the famous Professor Cheng Man Ching from 1967 to 1975. Ken was honored as one chosen to carry on the lineage teachings of Cheng Man Ching with an invitation by the Professor to participate in master classes. Ken has achieved an international reputation in Tai Chi, especially swordsmanship, due to his technical mastery and philosophical insights. He conducts Tai Chi form, applications and sword seminars throughout the U.S. and Europe.

Ken will present Professor Cheng Man Ching’s Tai Chi form while sharing firsthand knowledge about how and why the Professor changed the standard form. Ken will elaborate upon the form’s health, social and spiritual benefits. Non competitive sensitivity partner practice will be guided, based on martial classics and applications. Sword play will also be explored including sticking exercises with principles and dynamics from the form.

Qigong≈Taiji≈Bagua, essence and integration
“Fusion≈Forms” with Master Internal Arts Instructor Joseph Zeisky.

Joseph is a four-time Tai Chi Push-Hands Champion (1987-’91) and a two-time Grand Champion (1989 & ’91) with over 33 years experience practicing and studying internal martial arts and nature-based healing sciences and over 20 years of teaching experience. He is the creator of the unique “ZEIGUA” internal arts teaching method. http://www.zeigua.com

In this unique “Zeigua Arts” workshop, Joseph will present his integrated essence of three beautiful, powerful and interrelated classic Chinese martial arts and health maintenance systems: Qigong, Taiji and Bagua. From these three traditions, classic postures and simple sequences have been extracted to exemplify three dynamic facets contained within all internal martial arts. Healing-fitness empowerment skills, heart-mind balancing and awakening methods will be explored. Additionally, Joseph will demonstrate some practical martial/fighting applications and push-hands techniques.
